“If you’re a fan of Andy McNab, Chris Ryan, or Stephen Leather, you will love this book even if, like me, tales of war make you feel unsettled. Baldwin’s writing, affection for his characters, and storytelling ability will get you past what looks like a Nostradamus prediction, leaving the reader eagerly anticipating the next book. Baldwin is a talented writer who doesn’t rely on machismo or misogyny, often present in this genre. Instead, he elevates his characters with a credible and intricate plot while revealing the undeniable truths faced by military personnel in combat zones.”

“I had a lot of fun with this book, I think I mentioned in my Fools Mate 24, this isn’t usually my genre but Baldwins’ writing really pulls you into the story. Once again, his own lived experience shines through insuring a high anxiety ridded but fun ride.”

“I usually don’t enjoy war books, especially those written so realistically. Baldwin’s storytelling feels more like war reporting than fiction. In today’s climate, Operation Fools Mate 48 feels like an informed prediction, making it horrifically fascinating. Fans of Andy McNab, Chris Ryan, or Stephen Leather will love this book, even if war tales unsettle you. Baldwin’s affection for his characters and storytelling ability will keep you hooked.”

“Drawing on his experience as a tank commander, Baldwin delivers an authentic narrative, rich in detail and marked by a pragmatic view of war. His ability to balance intricate plotting with relatable characters keeps readers engaged. The ending is abrupt but impactful, leaving readers eager for the next instalment.”

“The protagonist, Mike Faulkes, leads a compelling exploration of camaraderie, sacrifice, and the ethical dilemmas of war. Baldwin’s authentic voice, informed by his own military experience, avoids clichés often found in the genre, offering a fresh perspective on modern warfare. The political undertones and evolving nature of conflict—especially the reliance on technology—add depth to the story, making it eerily relevant. Baldwin’s sharp critique of authority and clever use of analogue solutions keep the plot both engaging and thought-provoking.”

“From the vividly described battlefields to the tactical and personal dilemmas faced by the characters, every page grips you with tension. The story isn’t just about war—it’s about the humans caught in its web, their sacrifices, and their resilience. If you’re into action, strategy, and stories with heart, Operation Fools Mate 48 is a must-read. Perfect for fans of military thrillers and intricate plotlines”

“Well! That was even more tense and action-packed than book 1! I have to admit, I’ve always felt a level of safety knowing that we (the British) have our armed forces, who have sworn to protect us. So a book series in which they can’t do that is very unsettling! I tell myself it’s only fiction, but it’s so well written that it feels completely believable. This book is fast-paced, non stop action. Fantastic, realistic characters, and a storyline that has me flip-flopping from one opinion to another almost as fast as I’m turning the pages!”

“Operation Fool’s Mate is the kind of book that grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. I felt immersed in the chaos, heartache, and fleeting moments of camaraderie. It’s not just about the battles—it’s about sacrifice, resilience, and the emotional weight of decisions made under fire. At times, I found myself holding my breath, other times tearing up.”

“Operation Fools Mate 48 by M.L Baldwin is the second book in a belting trilogy so ensconced in lived experiences by the author that the plot can be considered to be written from an authentic perspective and as such, entirely plausible. Continuing from Operation Fools Mate 24, the plot is rich with dialogue and characters that you will equally love and despise. I am looking forward to book 3!”
